Learning Objectives:
To appreciate the inner lining of blood vessels, the vascular endothelium, functions as a systemically disseminated organ system and that dysfunction of the vascular endothelium ids the primary cause of human mortality.
To become familiar with the concepts of angiocrine signaling, the notion that endothelial cells are not just a responsive interface, but that endothelial cells control their local and systemic environment as a gatekeeper in an instructive manner.
To learn prototypically about the way angiocrine signaling mechanisms controlling liver function and how biomechanical microenvironmental milieu factors are translated into angiocrine signaling mechanisms.
