Milka Koupenova, PhD, FAHA is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at UMass Chan Medical School, Worcester, MA, USA. Dr. Koupenova graduated with a B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and obtained her Ph.D. also in Biochemistry from Boston University School of Medicine. During her postdoctoral training, Dr. Koupenova fell in love with platelets and their non-traditional functions related to immunity. She started her lab at UMass Chan Medical School in 2020 focusing on characterizing the innate immune mechanisms in platelets during viral infections and the consequent implication to immunothrombosis.
