Johanna Gebhart is Associate Professor at the Department of Medicine I, Clinical Division of Hematology and Hemostaseology at the Medical University of Vienna, and vice head of the Thrombosis and Haemostasis Research Group.
Prof. Gebhart was clinically trained in Internal Medicine and Hemato-Oncology at the Medical University of Vienna with special focus on thrombosis and hemostasis. As Principal Investigator of the Vienna bleeding biobank and the Vienna ITP biobank her scientific expertise encompasses mild bleeding disorders, especially bleeding disorders of unknown cause, primary immune thrombocytopenia, and the antiphospholipid syndrome. She obtained her PhD in vascular biology in 2015 on plasma clot properties and hyperfibrinolysis in patients with mild bleeding disorders. Prof. Gebhart is a dedicated clinician and her research stays at the University of North Carolina (Prof. Alisa Wolberg) and the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen have strengthened her international research network in the field of thrombosis and haemostasis. Prof. Gebhart has published in national and international journals, co-authored guidelines and recommendations and is a renowned speaker at national and international conferences.
