Donna Di Michele, M.D. served as Deputy Director of the Division of Blood Diseases and Resources, NHLBI between 2010 and 2019. Prior to assuming this position at the NIH, she was Professor of Pediatrics and Public Health at the Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University, Director of the New York Center for Hemophilia and Coagulation Disorders and Attending Physician at the New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. She remains affiliated with Weill Cornell Medical College as Clinical Professor of Pediatrics on the Voluntary Faculty.
Her academic and research interests have included pediatric hematology, hemophilia, and coagulation disorders; the investigation of the complications of hemophilia treatment, including factor VIII inhibitors; pediatric rare diseases research, and medical ethics.
In her leadership position within the Division of Blood Diseases and Resources, she had the privilege of engaging in the stimulation and stewardship of basic, translational, and clinical research in the area of blood and vascular science, as well as in the initiation of programs to support the career development of the future blood science research workforce.
Since the beginning of 2020 she has embarked on a new venture as the principal consultant with Donna DiMichele Consulting, LLC, with the goal of partnering with the Hematology Community at large and the Bleeding Disorders Community in particular, to strategize a future informed by critical research and supported by a robust and dedicated workforce. She was elected to the ISTH Council in 2020 ( Class of 2026) and is currently serving as both Chair of the ISTH Governance Committee and a member of the ISTH Publications Committee. She is delighted to be back in her hometown of Montreal and participating in the Early Career Roundtable.
