Roger Schutgens is a Consultant Haematologist at the University Medical Centre (UMC) Utrecht. His main responsibilities include care, research and education in the area of benign haematology and clotting diseases. Prof. Schutgens is the Head of the Van Creveldkliniek, a national expertise center for rare and inherited benign haematologic disorders, thrombosis and haemostasis. He is coordinator of the expertise centers for rare diseases at the UMC Utrecht. He is chair of the newly founded EAHAD European Glanzmann Thrombasthenia Working Group. Prof. Schutgens areas of focus include patients predisposed to bleeding, congenital abnormalities of platelets and hypercoagulable conditions and has published over 220 peer reviewed articles. He has been actively involved in care and research for cardiovascular disease in haemophilia and is the leading author of the joint EHA-ISTH-EAHAD-ESO guidance document on antithrombotic therapy in haemophilia patients. Dr Schutgens is scientific editor for HemaSphere.
