X. Long Zheng, MD, PhD is Russel J Eilers Professor and Chair of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas, U.S.A. Dr. Zheng was among the first group of scientists who identified and cloned ADAMTS13, a plasma metalloprotease that cleaves von Willebrand factor. Over the past decades, Dr. Zheng’s laboratory has made seminal contributions towards our understandings of the structure-function and regulation of ADAMTS13 protease and the pathogenesis of immune-mediated thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (iTTP), as well as other inflammatory thrombotic disorders associated with imbalance of ADAMTS13/VWF axis. Dr. Zheng’s research group have published more than 130 manuscripts in various high profile and peer-reviewed journals, including five classic textbook chapters. Dr. Zheng led an internal group of experts to develop and publish the first ISTH guidelines for diagnosis and management of TTP. Dr. Zheng also serves in the leadership roles in many professional societies, editorial boards, and study sections of National Institute of Health in U.S.A.
