Associate Professor
University College London
London, England, United Kingdom
Dr Paul Batty, is an Associate Professor in Haemophilia at University College London and an Honorary Consultant in Haemostasis and Thrombosis at the Katharine Dormandy Haemophilia and Thrombosis Centre (Royal Free Hospital, London, UK).
He has active research interests in inhibitor immunology, gene therapy and novel therapies for the management of inherited bleeding disorders. He has recently completed a three-year post-doctoral fellowship in Dr David Lillicrap’s group, investigating the early and long-term fate of Adeno-associated viral gene therapy in the hemophilia dog model. The aim of these ongoing studies is to provide translational information on safety and efficacy of adeno-associated viral gene therapy.
He has previously completed a PhD in Immunobiology, under the supervision of Dr. Dan Hart, investigating factors surrounding FVIII immunogenicity, with an aim at improving detection and characterisation of inhibitors. During this time, he co-designed an investigator-initiated satellite study within the NuProtect Study (ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT01992549) to prospectively evaluate whether changes in transcriptomic profiles may predict inhibitor formation during early treatment with a recombinant FVIII concentrate.
He has published a number of articles on gene therapy, inhibitor testing, acquired haemophilia and usage of factor concentrates in the management of the inherited bleeding disorders. He is active in promotion of research and training in haemostasis and thrombosis at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
