Richard M Burwick, MD, has extensive clinical and research expertise in the area of preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome. Dr. Burwick and his colleague Dr. Bruce Feinberg are recognized as the first in the world to treat preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome using complement blockade. Dr. Burwick's research team also studies complement proteins in atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS) and more recently, COVID-19. Dr. Burwick is Principal Investigator on two clinical trials evaluating complement blockade for treatment of early-onset Preeclampsia or severe COVID-19. Dr. Burwick specializes in blood, immune, and kidney disorders in pregnancy. Clinically, Dr. Burwick performs high-level ultrasound, amniocentesis and CVS procedures and he is an expert in cervical cerclage and pessary to prevent premature delivery. Dr. Burwick provides individualized care plans for his patients and he is available for consultation before, during or after pregnancy.
