PhD student
Semmelweis University, Department of Biochemistry, Budapest, Hungary
Budapest, Budapest, Hungary
My name is Kata Kálmán, I am a first year PhD student at Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary.
I am a research biologist. I earned my bachelor’s degree in 2019 at University of Szeged, Szeged, Hungary in cellular and molecular biology. I was particularly interested in immunology, therefore I decided to pursue a master’s degree in molecular-, immuno- and microbiology at Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, Hungary. I worked on my master’s thesis in an immunology research group, where we studied B and T cell roles in human autoimmunity, especially the role of the PD-1 receptor and its ligand, PD-L1. After I graduated in the summer of 2021, I continued my work as a research associate. In 2022, I started working at Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary in HCEMM’s (Hungarian Centre of Excellence in Molecular Medicine) Thrombosis and Haemostasis research group, where I enrolled as a PhD student in the patobiochemistry programme. Here we study the delicate mechanisms of haemostasis, focusing on the role of red blood cells, tranexamic acid and neutrofils, trying to better understand this elaborate and indisputably important system.
