I am Dougald (Mac) Monroe, PhD in Biochemistry doing basic research as a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. As part of the UNC Blood Research Center, I use my background in protein chemistry and enzyme kinetics to collaborate on studies looking at the molecular mechanisms that underlie both healthy hemostasis and the dysregulation of hemostasis seen in bleeding and thrombosis. Part of my research focus is on the mechanisms of novel coagulation molecules and novel antithrombotics. A main focus of my work is developing mathematical models of coagulation and thrombus formation that will provide a basis for new drug development.
