My name is Connor Bunch, MD, and I am a Resident Physician in the combined Emergency Medicine/Internal Medicine/Critical Care residency program at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, USA. My career as a physician scientist began as a medical student where I assisted the research of Dr. Mark Walsh, an internist and emergency physician expert in thromboelastography, hemostasis, and trauma-induced coagulopathy. The current interest reflects not only my apprenticed intrigue in point-of-care tests of hemostasis, but also the significant demand in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care for bedside diagnostics. Resonant Acoustic Rheometry (RAR) is an exciting novel viscoelastic method with potential to transform how rapid clinicians may diagnose hypofibrinogenemia and phenotype fibrinolysis to guide rapid reversal with fibrinogen concentrates and tranexamic acid, respectively. With an experienced biomedical engineering lab from University of Michigan and the clinical expertise at Henry Ford Hospital, our team of scientists is poised to revolutionize the diagnosis and treatment of aberrant clot formation and hyperfibrinolysis at the bedside.
