John Hogwood, PhD, Medicinces and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, UK
Since joining the UK’s National Institute of Biological Standard and Control – subsequently integrated into the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in 2022 – John has played a role in the production and characterisation of International Standards for the WHO within the Haemostasis field. Currently, as a Principal Scientist within MHRA, John is responsible for antithrombotic, coagulation factor and coagulation inhibitor reference materials. He has a particular interest in the heparin field, being involved in the replacement of two key reference materials, the unfractionated heparin and low molecular weight heparin International Standards. This interest extends into potential new novel applications of heparin and heparin-like material, an area in which he completed a part-time PhD at King’s College London, for which reference materials may be required in future.
