Professor Katrien Devreese (MD, PhD) is professor in Hematology/Coagulation at the Ghent University (Belgium) and head of department Scientific Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the Ghent University. She is head of department of Laboratory Medicine (including the Coagulation Laboratory) at the Ghent University Hospital.
Professor Devreese obtained her Medical Degree at the Ghent University in Belgium followed by Specialization in Clinical Pathology/Hematology, and an Academic degree of Doctor in Medical Sciences (Ph.D.) with the thesis “The laboratory diagnosis of the antiphospholipid syndrome” at the Ghent University.
She is past-chair and currently co-chair of the Lupus Anticoagulant/Antiphospholipid Antibodies subcommittee of the Scientific and Standardization Committee (SSC) of the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH). She serves as a member of the ISTH Education Training subcommittee. She is executive board member and vice-president of scientific communications of the International Society for Laboratory Hematology. She is board member of the Belgian Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis. She is associate editor of the International Journal of Laboratory Hematology.
Prof. Devreese is active in different domains of laboratory haemostasis. Her research interests are focused on studies in the diagnostic field of Antiphospholipid Syndrome, as illustrated in many publications and guidelines.
