Dr. Andra H. James is a Professor Emeritus of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and a Consulting Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology at Duke University, Durham, NC, USA. Her practice, research and publications have pertained to reproductive issues among women with blood disorders, particularly bleeding disorders.
She is involved nationally and internationally to improve healthcare for women with blood disorders. She is currently president of the Foundation for Women and Girls with Blood Disorders. Previously, she served on the Medical Advisory Committee of the Platelet Disorders Support Association, the Medical and Scientific Advisory Board of the National Blood Clot Alliance, the Board of Directors of the National Hemophilia Foundation, the Medical and Scientific Advisory Committee of the National Hemophilia Foundation, the Women’s Task Force of the National Hemophilia Foundation, the Board of Directors of the Hemostasis and Thrombosis Research Society, and served as chair of the Women’s Task Force of the National Hemophilia Foundation and chair of the Women’s Issues Scientific Subcommittee of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH). During 2011-2012 she was a special advisor to the Director of the Division of Blood Diseases and Resources at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, NIH. In 2017, she was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Hemostasis and Thrombosis Research Society.
