Jon Gibbins is Professor of Cell Biology in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Reading in the UK. His research focusses on the molecular mechanisms that control the functions of platelets in health and disease. His work has been instrumental in understanding some of the key mechanisms of platelet activation and inhibition and evaluation of the potential to target these mechanisms to prevent thrombosis. Jon’s lab is currently focussing on measuring and understanding variation in platelet reactivity in healthy and diseased cohorts, and determining the molecular basis of this variation, as a means to establish methodology to stratify patients for more effective anti-platelet therapy.
