My name is Peter Andrisani and I am a first-year Masters student studying at the Thrombosis and Atherosclerosis Research Institute (TAARI). My research is focused on understanding the regulatory mechanisms of the protein A disintegrin and metalloprotease with thrombospondin type-1 motifs, 13th member (ADAMTS13). Unlike other metalloproteases and ADAMTS members, ADAMTS13 is resistant to broad-spectrum inhibitors while maintaining high levels of specificity to its substrate, von Willebrand Factor (VWF). By gaining a better understanding of the mechanisms that govern this resistance, we can generate novel mutants of ADAMTS13 that can serve as therapeutics in various thrombotic diseases.
