PhD-candidate/anesthesiology resident
UMCG
Groningen, Groningen, Netherlands
Dr. Bianca Lascaris graduated from Medical School at Maastricht University, the Netherlands, in 2015, after earning a Bachelor of Science in Medical Natural Sciences and a Master of Science in Management, Policy Analysis and Entrepreneurship in the Health & Life Sciences, both from VU Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
She is currently an anesthesiology resident and PhD candidate at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands. The overall aim of her PhD project is to establish a new, modular-build perfusion device that allows dynamic normothermic preservation of human livers for 7 days and longer. She does this under the mentorship of Prof. dr. Vincent de Meijer and Prof. dr. Robert Porte. Her goal is to establish a future platform to increase the pool for donor livers by repairing injured, poor-quality livers which are now discarded, as well as to increase our knowledge about liver physiology, including the physiology of blood coagulation, under the supervision of Prof. dr. Ton Lisman. To reach these goals, she believes that national and international collaboration between different disciplines is essential. Bianca co-authored several publications on liver machine perfusion by the Groningen group and is currently a board member of LICAGE (Liver Intensive Care Group of Europe).
