Staff Scientist
The Scripps Research Institute
La Jolla, California, United States
Roberto Aiolfi is a Scripps Research Institute staff scientist specializing in pathogen-host interaction in the hematology field. He is a graduate of Vita-Salute San Raffaele in Milan, where he worked on the role of platelets in bleeding protection during viral hemorrhagic fever infections. With over eight years of experience, he has been working on uncovering the molecular mechanisms involved in the interaction between the hemostatic and immune systems and how highly pathogenic viral infections modify this finely tuned balance leading to severe disease outcomes. He is actively working on murine models of COVID-19-associated coagulopathy, and he will present his work entitled “Endothelial activation and von Willebrand Factor role in COVID-19-associated coagulopathy”.
