James H. Morrissey, PhD, is a professor at the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA. He received his PhD from the University of California, San Diego and did postdoctoral research at the University of Oxford. Beginning with the cloning of tissue factor in 1987, his research has focused on biochemical mechanisms by which the blood clotting system is regulated. In 2006, his laboratory discovered that inorganic polyphosphate, released from activated human platelets, is a potent modulator of blood clotting and inflammation. He and David Lillicrap jointly serve as Editors-in-Chief of the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis.
