I have specialized in inflammation and have a strong experimental background within inflammation and vascular disease and how pathogens/danger associated/altered molecules activate the innate immune system. Since 2014, I have been doing research in the field of immunology with focus on inflammation, the contact system and the complement system. I have shown several mechanisms by which cholesterol crystals, a hallmark of atherosclerosis, activate the complement system and interact with other cascade systems. I have set up novel immunological assays to measure complement components in humans, taken these assays to “bedside” and been a part of clinical studies. This (and my ability to cooperate) has given me the ability to work across research areas such as nephrology, microbiology, neurology, and cardiology.
