Heleen van Ommen, MD, PhD is associate professor of pediatric hematology and head of the department of pediatric hematology & oncology of the Erasmus MC Sophia Children’s Hospital, Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
Her research focuses on pediatric thrombosis and hemostatic complications in pediatric ECMO patients. She is founder and chair of the International Pediatric Thrombosis Network (IPTN), and former co-chair of the Scientific and Standardization Committee (SSC) (Pediatric/Neonatal Hemostasis and Thrombosis) of the ISTH. She co-authored the ASH guideline for treatment of pediatric thrombosis in 2018. In addition, she is member of the SSC Task Force for pediatric anticoagulant development and consultant and PI of several pediatric clinical studies of new anticoagulant drugs.
