I have a broad interest and background in the functional role of platelets as sentinel cells that balance hemostasis and thrombosis. My early work focused on exploring the production and function of noncoding RNAs in platelets and platelet-derived extracellular vesicles. More recent efforts have focused on the role platelets have as mediators between innate and adaptive immune responses. Our group has begun screening multiple classes of small molecules including inhibition of 12-LOX, testing ex vivo and in vivo efficacy as therapeutic agents in a mouse model of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT).
