Colin Kretz (PhD) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at McMaster University and a member of the Thrombosis and Atherosclerosis Research Institute. My laboratory investigates the regulation of hemostasis in order to develop strategies to diagnose and treat cardiovascular disease. My training in protein biochemistry and molecular genetics allows my lab to develop and apply novel technologies to our research. We have developed high throughput phage display techniques to investigate the regulation of protease activity and deep mutational scanning to comprehensively define the impact of variants on protein function. We have also taken traditional approaches to structure/function studies to map coagulation protein interactions and their consequences. Although the primary focus of my research is on the ADAMTS13/VWF axis, the broad applicability of our techniques and the breadth of our expertise has facilitated collaborations with a wide variety of investigators in the thrombosis and hemostasis research community. I train undergraduate, PhD, and research fellows in protein biochemistry and molecular and cellular biology. My research is primarily funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the National Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).
