Dr Francesca Calcaterra is a Research Fellow at the Unit of Clinical and Experimental Immunology - UCEI (Dept of Medical Biotechnologies and Translational Medicine) at the University of Milan – IRCCS Humanitas Clinical and Research Hospital.
Dr Calcaterra obtained her PhD in Pathology and Neurophatology at the University of Milan in 2016 and her research activity has been mainly focused on the characterization of human endothelial progenitor cells - with a particular focus on endothelial colony-forming cell (ECFCs) - in physiological and pathological conditions. In this context, she is currently leading a research team that is developing projects aimed to investigate the role of endothelial dysfunction in the pathogenesis human diseases including unprovoked venous thromboembolism and anti-phospholipid syndrome-associated thrombosis through the characterization of patient-specific ECFCs.
In addition, she is involved in other research lines focused on studying the role of dendritic cells (DCs) in tumors and on studying the innate and adaptive immunity in COVID-19 patients.
Her research activity is supported by several funding agencies; she has published 16 manuscripts on peer-review international journals as main or co-author and is currently member of several scientific Italian societies.
