Mehul Thakkar, MD Clinical Fellow, Pediatric Hematology-Oncology at Washington University in St. Louis
Dr. Mehul Thakkar was born and raised in Nashik, India. He obtained his medical degree from Seth GS Medical College, Mumbai, India. He completed his Pediatric Residency at Case Western Reserve University’s MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Thakkar is currently a Clinical Fellow in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology at Washington University in St. Louis.
Dr. Thakkar is interested in pursuing a career in Classical Hematology with a focus on Hemostasis and Thrombosis. Dr. Thakkar is passionate about medical education and quality improvement. As part of the Residents as Teachers' Program, Dr. Thakkar curated a curriculum involving various topics in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology pertaining to primary care and conducted teaching sessions for medical students and residents. Dr. Thakkar spearheaded a quality improvement project to introduce venous thromboembolism screening tool to Inpatient Pediatrics at the community hospital. He was also involved in a survey-based research study to assess the knowledge and attitudes of caregivers toward newer therapies for sickle cell disease. He served as a Program Representative for House Staff Association at this residency program. Dr. Thakkar won the Good Fellow Award for excellence in teamwork and leadership skills in 2022.
Dr. Thakkar is fluent in 4 languages: English, Hindi, Gujarati, and Marathi. He prides himself in caring for patients from various socio-economic and cultural backgrounds and is well-equipped in understanding and addressing their unique needs.
In his free time, Dr. Thakkar enjoys cooking and dancing. Dr. Thakkar hopes to advance his career as a Clinician Educator with a focus on Hemostasis and Thrombosis.
