Post-doc
Center for Thrombosis and Hemostasis - University Medical Center Mainz (Germany)
Mainz, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany
My name is Giulia Pontarollo, and I am currently working as a post-doc in the research group of Professor Christoph Reinhardt, at the Center for Thrombosis and Hemostasis - University Medical Center, Mainz (Germany).
In 2013 I graduated with honors in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology, at the University of Padua (Italy) under the supervision of Professor Vincenzo De Filippis. In the same lab I performed my PhD in Molecular Sciences, which I achieved in 2017 with a thesis entitled 'Molecular Mechanisms of Recognition of Coagulation Factors'. Here, I gained proficiency in protein chemistry and enzymology by investigating non-canonical mechansims of blood coagulation, with a focus on bacterial proteases.
As a post-doc, I broadened my biochemical background by acquiring new biological skills. Therefore, in February 2019 I joined the Reinhardt lab in Mainz as a post-doc. In my current research group, we work with germ-free and transgenic mouse models to unravel the impact of commensal gut microbiota on the host, spanning from local (patho)physiology (villus vascularization, inflammatory bowel disorders) to systemic disorders (atherosclerosis).
