Alice M. Todaro, MSc
PhD candidate at Biochemistry Department of CARIM (Cardiovascular Research Institute Maastricht) at Maastricht University (The Netherlands).
She studied at Ferrara University (Italy) where she obtained Master’s degree cum laude in Biomolecular and Evolutionary Sciences. During her internships, under the supervision of Prof. Mirko Pinotti and Dr. Alessio Branchini, she worked on coagulation factor IX (Haemophilia B) and focused on rescuing secretion and function of coagulation factor IX impaired by missense and nonsense mutations.
Currently, she is a PhD candidate at Biochemistry Department (CARIM, Maastricht University) under the supervision of Prof. Tilman M. Hackeng and Dr. Elisabetta Castoldi. She works on inherited bleeding disorders, with particular focus on coagulation factor V (FV) and its alternative splicing variant (FV-short). More specifically, she is exploring molecular strategies to modulate the expression of FV-short and to restore synthesis and activity of FV impaired by nonsense mutations.
