Pamela Christopherson is the central coordinator for the Zimmerman Program and co-project leader of VWF Biology research at the Blood Research Institute in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Our research focuses on the molecular impact of VWF on clinical VWD and aims to further characterize the longitudinal changes in VWF levels and bleeding symptoms, examine linkage of genetic variations in VWD families discovered in or outside of VWF by whole genome sequencing and contrast qualitative and quantitative VWD through functional VWF assays and animal models. This project addresses multiple clinical and basic questions about VWD and how assays and clinical scoring vary over time, to better elucidate the critical mechanisms in VWD, and contrast affected with unaffected family members to further understand VWF function and mechanisms involving identified genetic changes. Through these studies we expect to gain greater insight into the disease mechanisms causing VWD.
