Alessia Cucci, PhD, works at the Department of Health Sciences, University of Piemonte Orientale (UPO), Novara, Italy. She was born in 1991 in Enna, Italy. She got her Bachelor Degree in Biotechnology in 2015 at the School of Medicine – UPO in Novara, Italy and also her Master Degree in Medical Biotechnologies in 2017. She obtained her PhD in Medical Sciences and Biotechnology in 2021 at UPO with a thesis entitled “Extra coagulative roles of FVIII in endothelial cell functionality”. During her PhD program she worked in the Histology laboratory in the Department of Health Sciences at UPO under the scientific supervision of Professor Antonia Follenzi. Currently, she is a postdoc in the same laboratory where her research is mainly focused on regenerative medicine and cell and gene therapy for hemophilia A. Specifically, she works on the differentiation and gene modification of endothelial cells, starting from induced pluripotent stem cells or from primary endothelial cells, to correct the bleeding phenotype of hemophilia A. In the context of hemophilia A, she is currently unveiling the role of FVIII beyond coagulation.
