Rupert Bauersachs, MD, is Professor of Internal Medicine, and board-certified for Vascular Medicine, Phlebology, Diabetology, Hemostaseology and Aviation Medicine. He is founder of VASC, Center for Vascular Research, Munich and faculty member of the Goethe University, Frankfurt and Visiting Professor for Vulnerable Individuals and Populations – VIP at the Center for Thrombosis and Hemostasis (CTH) at the University of Mainz. He is the scientific director of the Thrombosis Action Alliance, which organizes the yearly World Thrombosis Day in Germany.
He studied medicine in Munich, and in 1981 at Oxford University Medical School and in 1984 he received his Medical Doctorate. From 1984 to 1985 he was a researcher at the Institute of Pharmacology at the Technical University of Munich and from 1985 to 1987 he was Research Fellow of the American Heart Association at the USC Dept. of Physiology, Los Angeles. He completed his Internal Medicine training at the Klinikum München-Bogenhausen and continued his training at the Universities of Frankfurt and Mainz. In 1999 he obtained the teaching certification for Internal Medicine at the Goethe University of Frankfurt. From 1999 to 2003, Professor Bauersachs became acting director of Vascular Medicine at the Goethe University Frankfurt. In 2003 he was appointed director of the Department of Angiology at the Klinikum Darmstadt and was co-founder of the Vascular Center Darmstadt. In 2020, Professor Bauersachs founded VASC, Center for Vascular Research. As clinical angiologist, phlebologist and hemostaseologist he also works at the Cardioangiology Center Bethanien, CCB in Frankfurt.
