Faizan Khan is a PhD Epidemiology candidate at the University of Ottawa and the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute in Ottawa, Canada, supervised by Dr. Dean Fergusson. His thesis, funded by a doctoral research scholarship from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, is focused on the duration of anticoagualtion for unprovoked venous thromboembolism (VTE). During his graduate studies, Faizan has published over 20 lead-author publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals such as The Lancet, The BMJ, Annals of Internal Medicine including a chapter in the European Society of Cardiology Textbook of Cardiovascular Medicine. Notably, he has published important systematic reviews establishing the long-term risks of recurrent VTE after discontinuing anticoagulation (Khan F et al. BMJ, 2019) and major bleeding during extended anticoagulation (Khan F et al. Ann Intern Med, 2021) in patients with first unprovked VTE.
