Iris van Moort, PhD, is a postdoctoral researcher at the department of Hematology (research group Dr. ir. R. Bierings) at the Erasmus University Medical Center Rotterdam, the Netherlands. After her studies at the VU University Amsterdam and King's College London she started her PhD project at the Sophia Children's Hospital, Rotterdam. During her PhD project, she set up one of the first RCTs in haemophilia worldwide and investigated that large inter-individual differences are present between patients. These inter-individual differences together with all the personal stories from each patient in the RCT are the driving force to continue her research to explain the inter-individual differences in bleeding phenotype and treatment response in patients with bleeding disorders. Iris' postdoctoral fellowship is part of the SYMPHONY consortium (https://symphonyconsortium.nl/) and aims to generate state-of-the-art individual cellular model systems to unravel the cellular mechanisms that are at the basis of (unexplained) bleeding abnormalities in patients.
