Background: In 2018 a recommendation on the treatment of cancer associated thrombosis was launched at a public institution dedicated to the comprehensive care of cancer patients. A continuous educational strategy was needed to reinforce knowledge and assure that new healthcare professionals, residents and postgraduates were aware of the recommendation. An e-learning course was developed.

Aims: This report aims to show how the course was organized and preliminary results on its performance.

Methods: The course was elaborated by the Thrombosis and Hemostasis group and the Human Development Management area. It was organized in 7 modules and uploaded to Neolude (by Inspand) e-learning platform. Participants were invited by e-mail. Ten-minute videos totalized a 3-hour course. There was a pre-course survey on CAT and questions to test immediate learning after each module. A survey on the course was also available. Data on accesses, answers and comments were stored by the platform, which calculates frequencies of each answer. This study was previously approved by the local Ethics and Research Committees.

Results: From May 2022 to January 2023, 228 professionals signed up to the training: 51 have already completed it, 167 are ongoing and 10 left the institution. From the 218 active participants, 71 (33%) were physicians, 20 (9%) pharmacists and 127 (58%) nurses. Only 40% of the professionals knew and used the recommendation before. Seventy eight percent of professionals already knew that CAT is the second cause of death in cancer patients and only 11% believed that CAT recurrence is frequent. Forty-nine participants answered the final survey and 96% of them considered the learning both applicable and of excellent/good level.

Conclusion(s): The e-learning course seems to be a useful tool for training on the recommendation on CAT management at the institution. Replies and comments provided insights for improvements to the recommendation and training.
