Eric Mullins., MD is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and the University of Cincinnati - College of Medicine. He has focused his career on the care of children with coagulation disorders, both bleeding disorders and thrombosis. Dr. Mullins has an NIH-funded laboratory research program to investigate the role of coagulation factors in driving neuroinflammation and neurologic injury. He has found that fibrinolysis is a key step in driving neuroinflammation. His research focuses on novel ways to exploit these findings to intervene in disease processes.
Dr. Mullins has also collaborated with Dr. Tanya Mullins on determining the hematologic risks of gender-affirming hormone therapy for transgender individuals. Gender-affirming care is critical for individuals with gender dysphoria, but, may be associated with a significant increased risk of thrombosis. Dr. E. Mullins and Dr. T. Mullins have focused on elucidating this risk. They have also focused on determining hematologists knowledge and practice patterns in caring for transgender individuals.
