Elisabetta Castoldi was trained as a molecular geneticist at Ferrara University (Italy), where she graduated in Biology (1996) and obtained a PhD under the supervision of Prof. F. Bernardi (2001). She then moved to Maastricht University (The Netherlands) for post-doctoral training in the biochemistry of blood coagulation with Prof. J. Rosing. Presently, she is an Associate Professor at Maastricht University. Her research work combines genetic and biochemical approaches to elucidate (inherited) coagulation defects that predispose to bleeding or venous thrombosis, with particular reference to factor V, the protein C pathway and the TFPI system.
