I am a Consultant Haematologist with a clinical practice in disorders of bleeding and clotting. My research focuses on the better understanding of the pathophysiology of trauma coagulopathy and in particular the clinical effects of fibrinogen replacement on outcomes. In addition, my research is beginning to evaluate the influence of the endothelium on the evolution of coagulopathy and the associated bleeding. I am a co-investigator for a UK wide trauma study: CRYOSTAT-2, evaluating the efficacy of early cryoprecipitate therapy in major trauma haemorrhage and the FEISTY-2 study in Australia, evaluating the difference in clinical outcomes between cryoprecipitate and fibrinogen concentrate. Closer to home, I am a member of the UKHCDO Genetics and Gynaecology Working Parties and I am an NIHR co-lead for haematology for the Thames Valley.
