Michael Holinstat, PhD, FAHA, Associate Professor of Pharmacology, University of Michigan Medical School, is a platelet pharmacologist studying how lipids and their oxylipins regulate platelet function. My lab focuses on eicosanoids and the enzymes that regulate their formation such as 12-lipoxygenase to understand how their mechanistically regulate platelet reactivity, clot formation, hemostasis, and thrombosis. We have identified a number of oxylipins that regulate platelet function, hemostasis, and thrombosis. Development of CS585 stemmed from the discovery of 12(S)-HETrE formation in the platelet.
