Dr. Shima had been a Professor of the Department of Pediatrics, Nara Medical University until 2020. Since then, he has been a Head and Professor of the Thrombosis and Hemostasis Research Center in Nara Medical University. He has a long career in practicing clinical management for the patients with hemophilia and its related diseases. Furthermore, he has been involved in the basic, laboratory and clinical research over 35 years in the field of thrombosis and hemostasis. He has published articles over 200 in major journals. His main scientific interests are clinical development of novel therapeutics, structure and function of FVIII, immuno-biochemical characteristics of inhibitor, global clotting function and molecular analysis of hemophilia. He has contributed to the pre-clinical and clinical development of a FVIIIa mimicking bispecific antibody (emicizumab) since 2003. He had been a chairman of the Japanese Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (JSTH) since 2017 to 2020. He has served as a Council member of ISTH, Class of 2024 .
