Post-doctoral Scientist
School of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science, University College Dublin, Dublin, Ireland
Dublin, Dublin, Ireland
Dr Luisa Weiss graduated from Fresenius University, Idstein, Germany, with a BSc (Hons) in Bioanalytical Science and Haematology in 2017. Following this, she moved to Dublin, Ireland, to pursue a MSc in Biomolecular and Biomedical Science at University College Dublin, graduating in 2018. She joined the UCD Conway SPHERE Research group under the supervision of Prof Patricia Maguire in January 2018 to conduct research for her MSc thesis and remained in the lab to complete her PhD. During her PhD, Dr Weiss investigated the effects of different anticoagulant therapies on molecular profiles of circulating extracellular vesicles in patients with various thrombotic disorders. Having completed her PhD in 2021, Dr Weiss continued on to pursue a postdoc in the same lab, developing a machine learning-based algorithm to risk-stratify patients with suspected preeclampsia. She is also involved in several national and international collaborations using ML-based analysis of health care data to infer important diagnostic/prognostic variables in various diseases.
