Henning Nilius, MD, MSc is a resident at the Department of Clinical Chemistry at the Inselspital University Hospital Bern and simultaneously enrolled in the Clinical Science Ph.D. Program of the Graduate School for Health Sciences at the University of Bern (Prof. Dr. Dr. Michael Naglers lab). After completing a degree in medicine from the RWTH Aachen University in Germany, he pursued a Masters's degree in Epidemiology at the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands. Henning’s research interests are focused on developing disease-specific prediction models that integrate both clinical and laboratory data, using machine-learning techniques. A noteworthy achievement in this field was the development and successful implementation of the TORADI-HIT model (https://toradi-hit.org), which is an easy-to-use and accurate tool for diagnosing heparin-induced thrombocytopenia at the bedside. Aside from his research on prediction models, Henning is also highly interested in evaluating the diagnostic accuracy of laboratory tests. He believes that understanding and improving how these tests are evaluated is essential for improving patient care going forward.
