Shabbir A. Ansari is a postdoctoral fellow with Dr. Sol Schulman in the Division of Hemostasis and Thrombosis at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School. He obtained his PhD from University of Calcutta (India) in collaboration with University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler (UTHSCT) under the joint supervision of Dr. L. Vijay Mohan Rao, Dr. Usha R. Pendurthi and Dr. Prosenjit Sen. Following his PhD, Shabbir continued in the laboratory of Dr. Rao and Dr. Pendurthi for two additional years as a postdoctoral research fellow before joining the laboratory of Dr. Sol Schulman in December 2020. Shabbir’s research since his graduation studies is focused on understanding the underlying mechanisms of Tissue Factor (TF) activation and its contribution in hemostasis and thrombosis. His entire postdoctoral training has been supported by multiple awards and grants including two postdoctoral fellowships from the American Heart Association and one from National Hemophilia Foundation (declined). He was recently awarded a NIH K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award to study the role and mechanism of TF activation in sepsis- and COVID-19-associated blood coagulation.
