My name is Jeremy Thompson PhD and I am a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Hematology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. I obtained my PhD in neuroscience at the University of Virginia. There I focused on the interplay of the immune and nervous systems in the context of brain infection and seizures. My thesis work explored the role of astrocytes in epilepsy caused by a mutation in the sodium channel Nav1.6. I joined the lab of Dr. Eric Mullins at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in July of 2021, where I continue to study inflammation in the nervous system, but in the context of traumatic brain injury and experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE, a murine model of multiple sclerosis). We are interested in how hemostatic factors impact neuroinflammation in EAE and how macrophages utilize plasminogen receptors to infiltrate the CNS during disease.
