Joost Meijers is Professor of Experimental Vascular Medicine at the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. He is head of the laboratory of Molecular Hemostasis at Sanquin, the Dutch Blood Bank, and staff member of the Department of Experimental Vascular Medicine at the Amsterdam UMC. He was trained as a biochemist at Utrecht University, and has worked previously at the University Medical Center Utrecht and the University of Washington in Seattle, USA. His research group aims to (better) understand the mechanisms of initiation and regulation of coagulation and fibrinolysis in order to improve the diagnosis and treatment of patients with bleeding or thrombosis. He is currently chair of the Scientific and Standardization Committee of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis.
