Veerle Labarque is Adjunct Clinical Head Pediatric Hemato-Oncology at the University Hospitals Leuven and Part-time Assistant Professor at the KU Leuven (Belgium).
She graduated from medical school (KU Leuven, Belgium) in 2001 and completed pediatric residency training in the University Hospitals of Leuven (Belgium) in 2009. In 2008, she defended a doctoral thesis (Ph.D. in Medical Sciences), entitled “New Mechanisms of Disturbed G-protein Signalling Cause Platelet Dysfunction and Impaired Megakaryopoiesis”. Following a clinical fellowship in Pediatric Hemato-Oncology at the University Hospitals of Leuven, she completed a fellowship in Pediatric Thrombosis and Hemostasis at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto (Canada).
Her basic and translational research focus lies within the field of benign hematology (i.e. bleeding disorders and sickle cell disease). She is actively involved in various societies and committees, including the European Pediatric Network for hemophilia management (PedNet), European Working Group of Severe Aplastic Anemia in Childhood (EWOG-SAA), the European Reference Network (ERN) EuroBloodNet, and the International Hemoglobinopathy Research Network (INHERENT).
To date, she co-authored almost 70 peer-reviewed publications in the field of benign pediatric hematology.
