Kimberly Martinod is an assistant professor in the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, at KU Leuven in Belgium. Her research group, located at the Center for Molecular and Vascular Biology in Leuven, Belgium, focuses on the interplay between thrombosis and inflammation in cardiac disease, specifically in the development of heart failure. After being co-chair from 2018-2022, she is now, as of July 2022, chair of ISTH’s Vascular Biology Subcommittee, where she is currently leading an international standardization study on the measurement of NETs in human plasma samples. After having established recommendations for assay selection (presented at ISTH 2022 in London), this new study will provide important data on preanalytical conditions for sample preparation for the recommended NET assays.
