Luciana Werneck Zuccherato; Luciana Zuccherato; PhD in Genetics, Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil.
Luciana is a long running enthusiast in understanding the impact of genomic diversity in humans. During her PhD, a thorough study of copy number and sequence variation of immune system related genes in Native American populations were performed at University of Leicester/UK. Afterward, she had an outstanding experience of working at Baylor College of Medicine/USA, where the mechanisms responsible for genomic structural alteration and its association with rare diseases at Dr. James Lupski laboratory were the main investigative scenario.
In Brazil, since 2017, she has been working with hemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders with Dr. Suely Meireles Rezende group. The work is focused on the genetic background of hemophilia A patients and genomic biomarkers associated with development of alloantibodies against factor VIII. By analyzing WES and customized NGS panels, she is performing the largest and most comprehensive evaluation of admixed Latin America individuals with this disease.
