INSERM Researcher

Beatrice Hechler gained her Ph.D. in Pharmacology in 1998 at the Université Louis Pasteur, Strasbourg, France. She spent a two year postdoctoral training in the laboratory of Professor Katya RAVID at Boston University School of Medicine, Whitaker Cardiovascular Institute, Boston (USA). She became a Researcher at INSERM (Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale) in 2000. She is currently working in the INSERM Unit 1255 "Biology and pharmacology of blood platelets: haemostasis, thrombosis, transfusion" located at the Etablissement Français du Sang-Grand Est.
The main focus of Beatrice Hechler’s work is platelet biology, pathophysiology and pharmacology and some aspects of vascular biology. Her main interest has long been the molecular mechanisms of ADP-induced platelet activation and its inhibition by the thienopyridine compounds. This led to the characterization and the identification of some of the platelet P2 receptors. She carried out extensive work on the platelet P2Y1, P2Y12 and P2X1 receptors. She also acquired expertise in various mouse models of arterial thrombosis in healthy murine vessels as well as in a context of atherosclerosis. Beatrice Hechler is currently interested in evaluating the role of platelets in non-haemostatic functions including septic shock, anaphylaxis and acute lung injury following transfusion of a blood product (TRALI). Since 2019, she has been appointed as a Co-Chairman of the ISTH Scientific and Standardization Subcommittee on Models of Thrombosis and Hemostasis.
