    Manuel Monreal was born in Gerona (Spain) in 1952.
    He studied Medicine at the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, and graduated in 1975
    He obtained the Ph.D. also in the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, in 1982.
    He has been working in the Department of Internal Medicine, Hospital Universitari Germans Trias i Pujol de Badalona (Spain), as Head of Vascular Medicine, until April 2022.
    He became Full Professor of Medicine in the Universidad Autònoma de Barcelona in 2018, and currently directs the Chair of Thromboembolic Diseases in the Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia (Spain) since 2010.
    He is the principal investigator and director of the RIETE registry, and has published over 500 research articles, most of them on venous thromboembolism. Some of these studies have been published in journals such as The Lancet, N Engl J Med, Arch Intern Med, JACC, Circulation, JAMA, and many other journals.
    He has directed 24 Doctoral Thesis, to students from Spain but also from other countries, including the US.
