Dr. Peisong Ma is an Assistant Professor at Thomas Jefferson University in the Department of Medicine. His research interests are in the areas of thrombosis and hemostasis, with a special emphasis on understanding G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) and G-protein mediated platelet activation and thrombus formation. Current projects in his lab are focused on understanding the GPCR regulatory mechanisms that allow platelets to produce an optimal response to vascular injury.
Recently, his research group has provided the first evidence that GPCR kinases (GRKs) regulate the hemostatic response to injury through a rate-limiting effect on GPCR signaling in platelets. Furthermore, they have identified that genetic variants in GPCR kinases (GRKs) are associated with decreased expression of GRKs, increased platelet activation and thrombus formation, and greater risks of cardiovascular diseases.
